Svaroopa

Svaroopa means “own form” or “essence” in Sanskrit. Yoga says that our true form, our essential nature is consciousness, bliss, limitlessness and expansive. In terms of the core poses of the practice, we use gentle precise angles & soften into those angles. We use props such as blocks, cushions and blankets in ways that support you in your process of releasing tension in your body. One of the principals of this style of yoga is to ‘sequence the spine’. What that means is that we are starting at the base of the spine (the tailbone) on up, releasing and opening the contracted muscles that are connected to your spine. When your spinal muscles release it affects your entire body, your mind, and more. The goal of yoga is to quiet your mind, so that you can discover the essence of your being – your true nature, which is called Svaroopa/bliss. For more information go to jayayoga.net
